Europe and rising Asia must re-engage in a new partnership

The Asia Europe relationship needs a revival. The Asian financial crisis of 1997, the adoption the single currency in the EU and engaging in several enlargements were the primary source of concern. Is it fair to say that Europe simply did not have the time for Asia? Dealing with rising Asia is nevertheless an inevitable step for the EU on the road to becoming a powerful global actor. Both Europe and Asia face different challenges. The ASEM meeting on 4-5 October will be therefore focusing on building a strategic partnership and finding the common ground between the two coasts of the Eurasian Continent.
