The second Understanding China SME roundtable on Intellectual Property Rights in China took place on 22 November 2010 in Turin, Italy. It was organised by Unioncamere in cooperation with CEIpiemonte.

This 1-day event was divided in two sessions: a morning info-seminar and an afternoon roundtable.

At the morning plenary session the following issues were discussed:
  • the current China IPR environment, legal framework and local players involved in IPR protection issues
  • an overview of the EU strategy as to IPR and support measures and tools for EU companies
  • a focus on the support measures provided at local, national and international level
  • professional advice on specific issues given by highly qualified professionals

The afternoon roundtable gave an opportunity to debate on issues tackled in the morning in more detail. In addition, two case studies were introduced to illustrate the experiences of 2 Italian SMEs that faced counterfeiting issues in China. The roundtable was moderated by an expert in Chinese law, Prof. Gianmaria Ajani. The keynote speakers from the morning session also attended to further animate the debate.

Both the background and event report of the workshop was forwarded to the European Commission as recommendations for further developments regarding the IPR protection.
